Inspection of delivered moto

目次

1. Inspection overview

This is a continuation of the previous blog “Delivered YZF-R125 5D7W!”.
I feel like lucky because the condition of the moto is better than I expected.

Anyway, I’m going to do an overall inspection to make sure.
The title “Inspection of delivered moto” sounds like it, but I’m just going to check it out for myself.

In this article, I mainly summarize the following.

  • Checking the contents of the inspection record written at the shop against moto
  • Checking the area and extent of oil leakage

There are many items that can be checked without tools.
I hope this will help you when you inspect your own bike.

2. Inspection of delivered moto (STEP 1-24)

STEP

Inspection record

<Inspection record filled by the shop>

I will go through the inspection items in the order of the inspection record which was filled by the shop.

Actually, I asked the shop to attach this record in order to clarify the details of the delivery maintenance.
125cc moto don’t have government inspections, so if I hadn’t asked, they might not have given it to me?

STEP

Removal of side cowl and panel

First, remove the exterior.

(For more information, see the maintenance records “How to remove side cowls and panels etc.”)

STEP

Engine oil leak 1

■Engine inspection

  • Spark plug condition: OK, as the engine started.
  • Condition of air cleaner element: OK, as the shop seems to have changed it.
  • Engine oil: There is a leak.

<Near oil filler port>

There are traces of what looks like spilled oil.
Follow the leakage marks…

STEP

Engine oil leak 2

<Oil stains>

It’s running down to the bottom of the crankcase.
Further inspection shows that…

STEP

Engine oil leak 3

<Drain bolt>

‘Oil is dripping from the drain bolt!’
But it seems to be more than the amount of oil that has been dripped from the lubrication port.
So is it leaking from the drain bolt?

STEP

Engine oil leak 4

<Muffler>

The muffler directly below the drain bolt was also moist with oil.
‘This is leaking quite a bit…’

STEP

Engine oil leak 5

<Condition of left under cowl>

This dirt was not spilled by the shop during an oil change, but must have leaked when the previous owner owned.

STEP

Engine oil leak 6

<Expanded red frame of STEP 7>

As it is not dripping continuously, clean it with parts cleaner and see how much it leaks next time.
The amount of engine oil was at the upper level.

STEP

Coolant / Engine oil leak?

<Near the cylinder head>

Is it coolant or engine oil?
It is oozing from the separating line.

I will check this at a later date.

STEP

Chain grease oozing?

<Under the sprocket cover>

Black dirt is also adhering here.
Is it chain grease oozing or engine oil?

This will also be checked at a later date.
In any case, if this is the case, there should be no problem.

STEP

Coolant quantity

  • Fuel leaks: no petrol smell, so assume OK.
  • Coolant: OK.

<Coolant reservoir tank>

Too much in.
Well, better than too little.

  • Function of the muffler: it is quiet and OK
STEP

Chain condition

■Power train inspection

  • Clutch lever free play: OK, as the clutch disengages and connects without problems.
  • Chain and sprocket condition: OK.

<Chain>

The sides of the chain are starting to rust a little, but after five years, this is to be expected.

STEP

Sprocket condition

<Driven sprocket>

The sprocket teeth are hardly worn.

STEP

Chain slack

<Chain slack>

It is only about 20 mm.
The standard is 35-45 mm, so it may be a little overstretched.

STEP

Condition of front forks

■Steering device

  • Damage to front forks: rust present but OK

<Inside left-hand front fork>

There was rust on the underside of the inner tube.
This is not an area where the dust seal/oil seal touches, so I assume it is OK.
There was no oil leakage.

STEP

Condition of steering stem

  • Steering stem mounting condition: OK.

<Step stopper>

There are no major scratches on the stopper, so it does not appear to have been a severe fall.
Good.

STEP

Amount of front brake fluid

■Brake inspection

  • Brake performance: OK because it stops.
  • Brake fluid level: OK.

<Amount of front brake fluid>

Contains.

STEP

Amount of rear brake fluid

<Amount of rear brake fluid>

Shop seems to have changed it when the moto was delivered and serviced, so it’s not a problem.
But the front fluid seems a little yellow in color…

STEP

Amount of front brake pads

  • Brake pad wear: OK.

<Brake pads condition 1>

Front pads (Around 4.7mm)

STEP

Amount of rear brake pads

<Brake pads condition 2>

Rear pads (4.2mm)
It looks like they are still usable.

STEP

Tires condition

■Undercarriage inspection

  • Tire groove depth: 4mm front and rear.
    It’s going to be all right.

<Tire production date>

Both front and rear were produced on week 23 in 2015.
There remains block on them, but they don’t look like they’ve been replaced once.
‘Six year passed. I’d like to change them…’

  • Front wheel bearing gapping: No gapping when the wheel is moved, so assume it is OK.
STEP

Condition of rear wheel bearing

  • Rear wheel bearing rattling: no rattling, OK.

<Rear tire>

The rear tire was shaken but there was no rattling in the wheel bearing.

STEP

Condition of rear suspension

  • Shock absorber oil leakage: oozing

<Rear suspension>

Hmm, a little oil smeared?
I’ll pretend I didn’t see it.

STEP

Condition of electrical equipment

■Inspection of electrical and safety equipment

This is the last item.

  • Battery fluid level: OK, as shop seemed to have changed it.

<Battery condition>

The red cover for plus terminal is off and it’s not cool…

  • Lights, etc.: All worked fine.

3. Summary

There are a few leaks around the engine, but it seems to be in better condition than I had imagined.
I’m afraid it’s going too well, there might be something…

Problems found during the inspection
  • Engine oil leaking.
  • Rust on the underside of the left front fork inner tube.
  • Oil is oozing onto the rear suspension shaft.
