1.Mudguard has holes in it
I noticed this when I removed the mudguard (black plastic part on the underside of the rear cowl) in the maintenance records ‘How to remove rear cowls and panel etc.’.
To my surprise, there are three holes in the mudguard.
One of them was sealed with a sponge, but two were open.
When washing the moto, water might get inside the rear cowl, so I decided to plug the hole.
From this article you can find the following.

2. Plugging holes in mudguard (STEP 1-5)
Holes in mudguard
<Holes in mudguard>
As mentioned above, the mudguard has three holes.
This shape may have been made in order to mold the following parts on the upper side of the mudguard.
- Hooks for the battery band (2 places)
- A lock to secure the fuse box
Hole in fuse box section
<Hole in fuse box section>
As for the hole in the fuse box section, it was plugged with a sponge, perhaps with waterproofing in mind.
On the other hand, it is not known if the hole in the battery band hook was not originally attached or if it has come off.
Since this is a good opportunity, I will plug the hole in the battery band hook and replace the sponge in the hole in the fuse box.
Foam sealant cut-out
<Foam sealant cut-out>
Thickness: 5 mm foam sealant was purchased, which is rounded to fit the size of the hole.
Determine the length and cut with scissors.
Rounded foam sealant
<Rounded foam sealant>
From the front, the pieces were cut at 190 mm, 165 mm and 130 mm and rounded.
When the release paper was peeled off, the foam sealant softened and became one size smaller than the one rounded in STEP 3.
It would be better to increase the size by 20%.
The foam sealant has an adhesive, so no glue is used.
Press it into the hole in the mudguard and stick it on.
Mudguard holes plugged
<Mudguard holes plugged>
You can’t see it clearly in the photo, but the foam sealant has become a little smaller and there are gaps in the corners.
But it would be a hassle to rebuild it, so we’ll leave it as it is.
Well, it’s better than nothing.
Maybe the adhesive part will get dirty and stained.
3. Summary
Holes in the mudguard were plugged with foam sealant.
I hope that washing the moto has made it a little more difficult for water to get in.
It is a world of complete self-satisfaction, but the advantage of doing it yourself is that I can stick to the details.
- There are three holes in the mudguard.
- The holes can be plugged with foam sealant.
- When using rounded foam sealant, it is recommended to increase the size of the foam sealant by about 20%, taking into account that the foam sealant will be smaller.
