1. The reason why I got
If you want to do some maintenance yourself, you will want a service manual.
With a domestic model, you may be able to buy a service manual, but with an imported model, the situation is different.
The YZF-R125 has a website called YamahaR125.COM, which is a surprisingly free-to-use site. Unfortunately, there is no mention of the 5D7 later model.
So, I looked for a manual from Haynes, which is a long-established manual publisher. And as I found it, I bought it.
This time, I bought it as a book, but you can also choose to download it, which is slightly cheaper than a book, and the contents seem to be more substantial, as follows.
- Video clips of common DIY tasks
- Approximately 750 color photos
If you are in an environment where you can work while looking at a tablet or laptop, this might be a better option.

3. Product Review
1) Good points
- The photos are so rich that I feel I can understand something without reading the description. (This is very important.)
- You can enjoy just looking at it.
- The maintenance of the front forks is impressive, with lots of descriptions of easy-to-make jigs and work innovations.
- There’s a list of fault codes. (although I don’t know how to read them…)
- Wiring diagrams are included in color.
- It even describes how to use micrometers, calipers and special tools, making it a good learning tool.
- It’s a great value for money at around 4,000 yen!
2) Unsatisfied points
- The descriptions of the three models are written together, so I was disappointed to read about a different model without realizing it. (It’s just my fault, though…)
- Most of the pictures are in black and white, so a little difficult to read.
- Tightening torques are listed in sections and not in the text, so you have to read the list back. (It depends good and bad points.)
4. Summary
The shop where I bought the moto is too far away to ask for maintenance, so I appreciate the existence of this manual.
There is very little information on servicing the inverted forks and radial-fixed brake calipers specific to the 5D7 later model, so I am sure it will be useful.
